Fortified Church
RodbavThe church dedicated to Saint Michael was built on a hill in the northern section of the village, at the beginning of 13th century. There are Romanesque gemel windows in the clerestory. The bell tower was added later in the second half of the 13th century. During the 15th century fortification process, the aisles of the Romanesque Basilica were demolished, and the nave and the choir were raised by the construction of a defence floor. The nave was transformed into a hall church and a barrel vault with penetrations was built. The defence floor above the hall stands on arches and on buttress attached to the outer walls.

The baroque altar was made in 1775-1776. The main image is flanked by wooden sculptures of Peter and Paul. Corinthian columns with protruding angel figures complement the Baroque ornamentation. The central picture was painted in 1900 by Ludwig Schüller and depicts the blessing of children.
The pulpit is dated 1678 and carved in stone.
A small bell bears the inscription: "I call the living, I unite for harmony, I mourn the dead. Cast in 1711, recast by Michael Manchen in Sighisoara in 1889". Original: „Die Lebenden ruf' ich, zur Eintracht verein' ich, die Toten bewein' ich. Gegossen 1711. Umgegossen durch Michael Manchen in Schäßburg 1889."
The church is surrounded by a ring in the shape of an elongated quadrangle that adapts to the terrain. The ring wall has embrasures and cast-iron bay windows. In the southeast corner there is a shell tower open to the inside. In the east, the ring is closed by a rectangular fortified building.
There is a richly decorated Romanesque portal in the west wing of the church displaying two pairs of columns with cushion and guilloche capitals, profiled bases, and imposts. During the 15th century the west portal was bricked up and opened five hundred years later during some extensive restoration work in 1965-1973.
