The “Church Fortress Trail” in the heart of Transylvania is a wonderful opportunity to explore rural Romania and the cultural history of the Saxons, as well as today's village life. Over approx. 75 km, we roam through unique landscapes, discover a high level of biodiversity, discover small villages and centuries-old fortified churches, the latter being unparalleled worldwide in terms of frequency and diversity. The path connects the two world's cultural heritage sites Viscri ( ger. Weißkirch) and Biertan (ger. Birthälm) over 10 small stages and is suitable for both hiking and cycling. In the individual villages, we have the opportunity to get an authentic picture of the Transylvanian cultural landscape. In addition to information on the hiking route, the guide contains selected information about the villages and churches along the way.
